Position Summary
The Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is part of a care team working to provide quality comprehensive
services to Sea Mar patients. The CNM will work collaboratively with staff to provide team-based
coordinated care.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and/or RESPONSIBILITIES
The CNM provides primary well woman, family planning, antepartum, intrapartum, post-partum, and
newborn care services to patients of Sea Mar Community Health Center in accordance with
training, experience and licensure, in compliance with the principles of practice of Sea Mar and its
mission.
The CNM will consult with an appropriate physician (family practice, OB/GYN, pediatrics, or other
specialist) as needed when patients care needs arise outside the scope of his or her training.
The CNM will provide appropriate hospital care as required.
The CNM may refer patients to medical specialist or other sources of service when necessary.
The CNM prescribes and/or dispenses required medication to patients according to the individual
prescriptive authority granted by the Washington State Board.
The CNM provides professional supervision to the assigned staff of nurses and other
paraprofessionals.
The CNM participates in preventive health programs such as immunization, disease detection and
disease prevention activities. Including education programs for patients and community groups in the
service area.
The CNM works closely with administrative personnel including the Clinical and Medical Director,
preparing reports, grant proposals and other administrative activities when appropriate.
High risk antepartum and intrapartum conditions would necessitate the CNM to initiate the process
currently defined by the standards of the community.
Qualifications
Knowledge of and interest in the unique cultural aspects of the Hispanic people is needed.
Bilingual ability in English and Spanish is preferred.
Education, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, and Medical Screening
Graduation from an accredited training program or an acceptable equivalent. Board Certified
with appropriate Nursing Specialty Board.
Washington State license to practice medicine.
One year of experience in a family practice setting is preferred.
This position must obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR within 90 days of hire date and is
required to maintain current BLS CPR throughout employment.
Additional Requirements
Pre-hire and annual employee health screening required
Annual influenza vaccine required. Only exception is for employees with a medical or religious
exemption approved by Administration. Employees with an approved medical or religious
exemption must wear a mask at all time during the flu season.
Supervision
JOB RELATIONSHIP
Supervised by: Medical Director and/or Chief Medical Officer and the Health Center
Administrator as appropriate.
Is evaluated on a yearly basis by the Medical Director and/or sponsoring physician and Chief
Medical Officer and the Health Center Administrator.
Interrelationships: Works closely with Medical Director, Chief Medical Officer, Administrators
and Executive Director to realize the programmatic goals of the organization.
